In this section you must make and install a Body for your Guitar from scratch.

1.1 Remove Body and neck from the Kit you built in Part 1 if necessary otherwise:

1.2 Purchase Timber or body blank for new Body. You will still need the neck

1.3 If purchasing Timber you may need to glue sections together. Ensure when glue is dry that blank is correct thickness, either check with Kit body or download sizes from the Internet. Plane or use Thickneser to achieve correct thickness. Sand level and smooth.

1.4 Purchase a Template for your Kit body. Alternately you can download plans from the Internet and transpose onto your body blank. You will still need templates for neck, pickup and control plate cavities.

1.5 Transpose body outline onto body blank and cut slightly outside of line with Jigsaw or Bandsaw.

1.6 Using Router and template rout body edge to required size. (You can hand sand or Bobbin sand if preferred).

1.7 Sand body perfectly flat especially edges. Use Bobbin sander if available or sanding block if doing by hand.

1.8 Mark centre lines on body and neck.

1.9 Present neck to body and create a temporary neck template ensuring sizes are accurate or use a pre-purchased template for neck socket.

1.10 Drill some holes with Forstner bits either in Drill Press or Hand Drill to required depth removing the bulk of the timber. Do NOT drill completely to actual depth.

1.11 Place template back onto body and rout out approx 5mm depth following template. Increase depth of Router until required depth is achieved.

1.12 Ensure neck is a good, tight fit and centre lines line up.

1.13 Using template rout out Pickup socket(s) and control plate socket. Drill hole for Jack Socket and wires from Pickups/ground.

1.14 Purchase some Binding if required. Go to 1.20 if not having an edge binding.

1.15 Rout an edge around the body for the Binding checking sizes of Binding for width and depth of cut.

1.16 Offer up the Binding to the routed edge and carefully with a Hot Air Gun told the Binding to the Body fixing as you go with tape

1.17 When satisfied Binding is fixed, remove tape at base of Body, pull back Binding and insert Glue. Fix back tightly with Tape.

1.18 Continue Gluing all the Binding.

1.19 Scrape and sand Binding level with Body.

1.20 Final sand Body.

1.21 Finish Body as required.

1.22 Assemble Guitar.
